I think that: In order to ensure the primacy of MPs, who can sometimes be placed in office by only one third of their electorate, we will have to be forced into the streets willy-nilly from productive labour come-rain come-shine to keep their hinds on the green benches as at least notionally superior to the nouveaux demotic Lords. Because: Compulsory voting avoids the necessity for political representatives to face their lack of legitimacy and to seek more obviously democratic and liberal means for regaining our authority and regard. |
