I think that: I am encouraged by reports that a government-commissioned review will recommend that children should start learning a language in primary school.
Because: Anything which encourages young people to broaden their horizons should be welcomed. When it comes to languages, we are too complacent in this country. We expect everyone to speak English when they visit the UK, but we make little effort to speak a foreign language when we're abroad. Getting children to learn a language from an earlier age will improve their chances of becoming fluent and will give them a greater appreciation of other cultures.
