I think that: In the years ahead, countries will increasingly derive their competitive edge from the speed with which they are able to innovate, building on a world-class research base, creating new products and markets and driving enterprise and efficiency

Because: Therefore, Britain has to be equipped to meet new challenges with a world-class skills base - both through the expansion of high-end graduate skills, but also by raising the skills of the wider adult workforce, including those currently unskilled.

Fine words, but as empty as the rest of the politicians. We used to have all that, but successive governments have trashed it - Labour most of all.
