Petition question: Prime Minister

Jamaica, W.I.
Dear Prime Minister
We the undersigned would like to ask the government of Jamaica for the confering of a significant honour to acknowledge the considerable work done by Mrs Amy Ashwood and Mrs Amy Jacques Garvey to forward the development and advancement of people of African origin across the world.
In London in April of this year, there has been the launch of the book "Women in the Garvey Movement" which documents the heroic deeds of the Garveyite women. It is clear that women were the backbone of the Garvey organisation and these two Jamaican women in particular, gave dedication, service and sacrifice at a time when black people were being treated shamefully in the world. There is ample documentation to show their dedication, commitment and contribution to Pan-Africanism, to women and to equal rights and justice and yet most people know very little about them. Those of us alive today have a responsibility to correct the errors of history and to ensure that those who have been neglected in the past can be given the respect and acknowledgement which they richly deserve; this applies to the two Garvey wives.
The last government was approached in 1995 and 1996 regarding this matter, letters relating to this can be supplied if required but nothing was done and we would like your government to act on this matter. We would like National Heroine status conferred upon them and failing this, to see a school or other establishment named in their honour
Nzingha Assata, Author "Women in the Garvey Movement" (2008).
Target: Prime Minister of Jamaica
