Poll question: BBC 5 Live listeners slammed the BBC for asking listeners whether they still had sympathy for the McCanns. The BBC then pulled the debate. What do you think?

		If the McCanns were non-white or tattoo-and-rottweiller-weilding chavs from a council estate, hard questions about their involvement in Maddy's disappearance, whether in terms of contributory negligence or worse, would have been raised in the British media long ago and we might have already seen the "20 things you never knew about the McCanns" headline.
		The BBC were right to pull the debate. Their listeners were saying that it's not a suitable subject for debate while the legal process was still ongoing and they were just demonstrating that the BBC listens to its customers
		It's a difficult, finely balanced call - the BBC have to balance the duty of coverage/asking the hard questions vs. the sensitivities of their listeners
		The BBC should have stuck firm. Those same listeners were silent whilst all the publicity fed the McCann's PR machine and the legal process has been ongoing throughout. They've only now spoken out because their fundamental assumptions of the McCann's innocence have come into question, implying what feels to many as an almost unpalatable explanation for Maddy's disappearance.
